Let The Games Begin
Following its official reveal at Summer Game Fest, SAW: Genesis is entering its Closed Alpha phase as the development team prepares to showcase the game at Gamescom. The first playtest will start July 16, giving players an early look at the asymmetrical horror experience set in the iconic SAW universe. This testing phase marks the beginning of an ongoing development program, with future playtests planned ahead of Early Access and continued collaboration with the community.
Developed by Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios, in collaboration with Lionsgate and published by Bloober Team, SAW: Genesis is a 3v1 asymmetrical multiplayer horror game in which three Accused are pressure-driven to work together to escape a maze of traps which have been orchestrated by a single Judge. Players face nail-biting tests and impossible moral choices, with survival coming at a steep cost. Set in the grim aftermath of World War I, SAW: Genesis allows players to take part in either side of this unnerving confrontation in intense matches played on procedurally generated maps.
The SAW: Genesis Closed Alpha playtest will feature a structured onboarding process designed to support focused testing, with participation granted through a survey-based selection process that enables a diverse pool of play testers. The rollout began on July 10 with Steam keys and server access distributed in phases following the completion of onboarding. During the playtest, players can form parties of up to three Accused, while matchmaking assembles a complete lobby by pairing each group with a fourth player taking on the role of the Judge.
Feedback gathered during the SAW: Genesis Closed Alpha will help refine multiplayer balance, evaluate technical performance, improve core mechanics, and evolve the game’s meta for a more engaging and replayable experience. As development continues, the goal for additional testing phases is to grow in scale, size, and accessibility.
